The National Research Mentoring Network is running state-of-the-art workshops this spring to get you ready for early 2018 submissions.  If this will be your first grant (or revision of a first grant), these workshops are for you.

Northwestern University’s Cohort 3 is a resource that makes this former freshman comp teacher’s heart go pitter-pat. The workshop takes a rhetorical analysis approach to teaching grantwriting.  Coaches present rhetorical patterns shared by successful NIH proposals and explain how and why they work.  Attendees will spend 2-3 months working in online groups to write and refine their proposals with attention to best rhetorical practices.  For those writing F32 or K awards, coaches will provide guidance for constructing and writing components specific to career development proposals such as descriptions of prior research, career development plans, and mentoring teams.

Up to 20 applicants will be selected.  Groups will launch with a 2 to 3 day kickoff in-person meeting in early June, and weekly or biweekly online meetings with your group thereafter.

Application Deadline: April 10, 2017

Proposal Preparation Program Cohort 5 is hosted by the University of Minnesota Twin Cities and begins in late June.  Intensive coaching and regular online meetings feature review of drafts by senior investigators and early career peers with emphasis on refining writing skills and clarify ideas.  A closing in-person session includes a mock study section, where participants receive written and oral critique of their proposal from experts in their field.  Individual support from coaches is available to all attendees.

Up to 11 applicants will be selected.  Groups will launch with a 2 to 3 day kickoff in-person meeting in late June, and biweekly online meetings with your group for the next four months.

Application Deadline: April 10, 2017
