Drug Development Externships with Eli Lilly

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and Eli Lilly are offering fully paid externships to support training and education in techniques, principles, and core competencies in multiple areas of drug development.

If you’re a trainee or investigator at a CTSA institution, you can apply! You must have a clinical doctoral degree (MD or PhD) or its equivalent in biological or biomedical sciences, bioengineering, or a related field. You’ll need to have a record of accomplishments in clinical and translational science research and an interest in drug development and commercialization. You also need to be a US citizen or permanent resident.

Time: Externships last six months, with the option to divide the time into two periods.

Cost: Free to you! Participants will be provided with a stipend/salary support, lodging, and travel costs between their home institution and Eli Lilly in Indiana.

Mentoring: Each participant will be matched to a mentor and integrated into scientific project teams at Eli Lilly.

Learning: The intensive experience will help participants understand the mechanisms of a drug’s action, identify strategies in developing compounds, and evaluate PK/PD studies that are used in preclinical and clinical studies.

Upon application, you’ll need to select two of six possible projects you’d like to work on. The application instructions will tell you more about the application requirements and process.
